The Harris Bag
The Harris Bag
It seemed obvious that when the news of the Obama Bag’s permanent new home in the Barack Obama Presidential Center Museum in Chicago coincided with President Biden stepping down and Vice President Harris’s uniting ascendency to the Democratic nomination I make a bag in Kamala Harris’s image.
Troy asked why I didn’t name it the Kamala Clutch and (after pointing out that it’s not a clutch; it has pearl handles) I realized that I specifically wanted to use the Vice President’s last name as I worry that there is an insidious habit of referring to men in power by their last name and women by their first. The world of fashion seems to have known better in many cases. Hermes didn’t name their Kelly Bag the Grace Bag nor their Birkin Bag the Jane. So this is the Harris Bag. Or, if you love alliteration, the Harris Handbag.
I hope that this bag conveys the singular combination of playfulness, fierceness, and dignity that Kamala Harris, as the first female President of the United States, will bring to the White House.
Bag is made from laminated public domain photographs fastened together with nylon cable ties, a blue velvet lining, gold tone hardware, and ‘pearl’ handles. Bag measures 8 inches wide, 5.25 inches tall, and 2.75 inches deep with 9 inch handles.
Shipping is included and I will donate $20.24 from the purchase of each bag to Kamala Harris’s campaign. Product ships in 1 to 3 days from purchase and travels Priority Mail via the USPS.
